You know it's a place like no other, as far as wonder and romance is concerned. If for some reason you find yourself in Paris with your lady, and you don't take her to the Tower, you are truly an idiot, and no one here can possibly help you--there, I said it...

The tower was met with resistance from the public at first; many thought it to be little more than an eyesore. Today of course, it is almost universally held to be one of the most striking pieces of structural art in the entire world.

Many erroneously think that the view from a Parisian window will always include the Eiffel Tower. In fact, the Tower is not visible from much of Paris, due to relief and other constructions blocking the sight.

The Eiffel Tower has two restaurants: Altitude 95, on the first floor (95 m above sea level); and the Jules Verne, an rather expensive restaurant on the second floor, with a private elevator.

Named in honor of the famed science-fiction writer, the Jules Verne has one star in the Michelin Red Guide. You have been warned.

Australian theme bar on a huge scale. Dance music at weekends (with accompanying lighting effects) make it a popular venue for a young, largely French, crowd. Unfortunately, it has become a victim of its own success with the inevitable: sometimes single French drunk dudes may try to attract all the women talking to Anglos. Sometimes this leads to violence.

But during the week it can be a lively place to go when everywhere else is boring. A large screen TV used to show major sport events, often with coverage in English thanks to Sky TV.

Although the only draught beer is Fosters, (at 34F / 40cl) there is a selection of Australian bottled and canned beers, various designer ciders and alcoholic lemonade etc. and some cocktails. Some food (home-made pies etc). The original (quieter, more mature, and some may say better) Café Oz is near Le Panthéon.

On Friday and Saturday nights it tries to be more of a night-club than a bar, with door policy and bar prices to match. Definitely the best late night bar in the area, but also by far the most expensive. However, the clientele tend to be there more to be seen than to party.

During daylight hours it sets out its terrace and serves light meals and cocktails.

Excellent French bar in the Bastille that's positively heaving at weekends. The crowd is cosmopolitan, young, and friendly. DJ’s spin the disks, while the crowd enjoys the music and drinks. The bar staff have a great time dancing and banging the symbol lampshades. It is extremely hot even in cold March weather, so it can be unbearable in summer. Other reviewers have reported a difficult door policy, but most say they have had no problems.

During the day food is served in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Lively French bar in the Latin Quarter, with a cellar. The cellar stays open until the early hours at weekends with live cabaret-style acts and musicians. A great value for entertainment and food.

According to one authority, Les Trois Mailletz was "originally [an] accomodation for the workers building Notre Dame (maillet means "mallet"). It has secret passages in the cellar leading to the catacombes under Paris, which house many old Parisian skeletons from the exhumed graveyards.

“Rumour has it that because of this, the pub was a key meeting place during the second world war for the Resistance."
