The movies are a great learning tool for romance and behavior, and here are some great movies to get dating tips. To put a movie together many people put in their time to tell a story as realistically as possible. Weaving emotions and feelings into the dialogue and even teaching us when to cry. The beauty of these movies are that someone tried to make them as close to life experience as possible giving way to validity for the lessons that you only paid $9 for.
Chivalry is not dead whether it is in the movies or not. Chivalry can be found in different forms including dedication. In movies where the guy has to wait a long time for sex, this is an example of his dedication to her. He pines away waiting for his one and only. If you have not rented The Notebook (2004), you are missing one of the greatest examples of both dedication and chivalry. Unabashedly romantic it is storytelling at its best and directed by Nick Cassavetes. The movie stars Gena Rowlands and James Garner as a couple who meet young, separate for years, reunite and so on. If you want to know what a "real man" is to a women then watch the last 15 minutes and find out what James Garner`s character is all about. I cried like an Oprah audience member.
The next example of this comes with an Irish brogue. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman star in Far & Away (1998) about class and Irish immigrants. From two different parts of the financial spectrum in famished Ireland, Cruise`s character will do anything to win the heart of his red headed socialite. He fights with her and for her and can not live with out her. The lengths he goes to prove his love are both admirable and valiant. He struggles with debt, abuse, hunger, anger and all during a long journey, never losing site of the prize that would be a wife to homestead with.
On a light note, nothing says crazy behavior like a Jack Nicholson film. Something`s Gotta Give (2003) stars Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. A swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in love with an accomplished woman closer to his age. How Nicholson`s character has to transition from his previous behavior to a one that is "worthy" is worth every penny. There is also a parallel relationship brewing by crappy actor Keanu Reeves and super hot Amanda Peet. We will learn from both relationships "what we are looking for". The other side to Nicholson`s character might satisfy the player in all of us. Seeing how a real player plays a real player. I love ya Jack! I will even take your leftovers.
One of my favorite movies about love has more "revenge" in it than any thing else. The Count Of Monte Cristo stars Guy Pearce and Jim Caviezel in a great adventure. This movie has a love story to it but it is Edmond Dantes` (Caviezel) journey and how he both loves and gets vengeance against his childhood friend that showcases what we consider to be manly, even gentlemanly behavior in the direst of times. This swashbuckling thriller will have you sitting on the edge of your seat until the last ounce of revenge is exacted, and you will cheer for him.
America`s Sweethearts, starring John Cusack, Julia Roberts, Billy Crystal and Catherine Zeta-Jones is about Hollywood`s hottest couple breaking up and the special effects it will take to reunite them. Gwen (CZJ) and Eddie (JC) are America`s favorite couple on and off the screen. The relationship is weaker than it appears and with the help of Lee (BC) the press agent and Kiki (JR) they work frantically to mend things only to find a completely different happy Hollywood ending. Guys, if you want to know how not to act then pay close attention to the "Latin lover" character played by Hank Azaria.
What collection would be complete for teaching various styles of male behavior toward women without Don Juan Demarco (1995). This movie is not as good as Chocolat. But in addition to having Johnny Depp, it has Academy Award winners Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway. This is a story about a man who thought he was the greatest lover in the world and people who tried to cure him of it. I don`t care how much plastic surgery Faye Dunaway has had, I would nail her harder than Dustin Hoffman in Little Big Man. This film also stars Rachel Ticotin (yum) and is produced by Francis Ford Coppola`s American Zoetrope.
All these movies have so many various themes and no two are alike in their story or message. All the men in these stories have many things in common, however, and their behavior almost always translates into getting the girl (or two).
Keep in mind that the upside and the downside are a lot a like. It is a movie. As stated in the beginning, many people go to great lengths to tell stories that are close to real as possible. Some hit the mark, some just have remnants. We all live our lives one moment, one hour, and one day at a time. None of us live a lifetime of love in 2 hours 16 minutes of running time. I always say, "Be you". Some may not want you for who you are and some won`t be able to live without you for who you are. Put your pen and paper away when watching these movies and only take mental notes because truth is stranger than fiction. So the next time you are out swashbuckling for chicks, make sure you bring your cape, you might have to keep her warm.
