"Livin' The Pimp Life" (Part 3 of 3)
DWB (Dating While Broke)
If you can "Mack" then you can "Pimp". To Mack is to hit on, flirt with, or seduce a female by using verbal or sometimes physical means of persuasion. Pimp has many definitions and can not be defined so quickly. One common denominator of every man that pimps is he looks the part no matter what.
My audience here ranges in age and social classes - one thing all of you gentleman share is your desire to seduce women and have them reward you with their company. So, if I can get all of you pimps, wannabe pimps, PITs (pimps in training), minor league pimps and even you Mack Daddy pimpin' mutha fuckas to get on the bus with me, I will take you on a mini-shopping-makeover and show you how to keep it simple while keeping it cheap.
BASICS
Let's start with "foundation" because there are many rules to a man's dress that we take for granted but women notice. Females are extremely fashion conscience and are not going to date someone that does not look like they have good taste or common sense. Good taste takes time (take it from me), common sense is another story and to those with no common sense I say, "Don't set trends and don't break rules". That last quote is your foundation when shopping or dressing for any event.
Common Sense
Gig Line = this is the vertical line up of belt buckle, pant opening and shirt buttons. When in alignment you look neat and kept not sloppy.
Necktie = your necktie length should never go more than 1 inch above or below your belt buckle when standing straight. Fat guys should wear fat ties. Thin guys should wear thin ties. Black or white ties should never be worn unless you're at a funeral a wedding or you are a waiter.
Shoes & Belt = the shoes should always match the belt (black belt equals black shoes) unless the belt will never be seen. No big belt buckles (gay) or braided belts (dated) or any belt or buckle that advertises the maker (Izod etc.). Shoes should always be shined and be comfortable. You will walk more confidently in comfortable shined shoes, I promise. Two of the main things a women looks at is your shoes and (see jewelry).
Jewelry = the second item besides shoes that catches a women's eye is your wristwatch. Face it, if you are wearing a Rolex or expensive timepiece that makes a statement. In my opinion the wristwatch is the only jewelry that a man should ever wear other than a wedding ring. I do have an exception to this rule - diamond earrings. I don't wear them but some men look good with earrings. To you my brothers I say, "Diamonds or nothing"!
Blue Blazer = every guy must own at least one blue blazer or suit jacket. This jacket needs to be single breasted and at least a "3 button". Dark or Navy blue is best - this jacket will go with blue jeans, khakis, gray slacks, brown slacks, and even slate.
These are the foundation or fundamentals of how not to break the simplest dress code rules and look like you really know what you are doing. Sometimes being well kept is better than being well dressed.
Where To Shop On A Budget
For the rich guys reading this get ready to laugh because I know most guys who own a Porsche Cayenne or Range Rover don't see themselves going to TARGET to buy t-shirts. TARGET rocks! TARGET has killer "pop media" t-shirts and in the last 5+ years have hired numerous designers such as MOSSIMO to provide trendy casual wear at a fraction of what bigger retailers are charging. TARGET has casual wear to athletic wear in current styles and eye catching colors. The even have cool shoes for $25! This is not K-Mart kids it is good products at a low price.
East Coast players have it made with FILENE'S BASEMENT. FILENE'S BASEMENT is literally a massive basement below the store offering every designer brand name you can pronounce. FILENE'S BASEMENT is know for its massive designer selection at "below retail" prices. FILENE'S has everything from blue jeans to business suits from RALPH LAUREN. You could virtually visit the store once and replace your entire wardrobe down to the shoes and socks.
For all the "SPORTY" guys out there who like to be "FLY" in work out wear and funky TRACK SUITS drag your sporty but to WAL-MART. The nations largest retailer did not get there catering to the rich. The have to compete with the K-Marts and Targets of the world. Go to the MEN'S SPORTSWEAR department for a multi-brand selection of comfy track suits.
Top 2 For Tight-Budget Shopping
The top 2 retailers providing kickass PIMP GEAR are ROSS (dress for less) and MERVYN'S. These are the two best retail stores for finding shoes to shirts and every pimp shirt in between. I saw a black pin striped suit from JONES NEW YORK at MERVYN'S for $250 - that is crazy! ROSS carries a killer line of ACCESSORIES including DESIGNER COLOGNES and even crap for your bedroom. Yes you can even dress your bedroom inexpensively at these two places.
Dressing on a budget means - attention getting apparel that flatters YOU and does not cost you much and has versatility. Much like the "blue blazer", when you buy clothes try to imagine how many things that piece of clothing can go with.
The more ways you can wear one item the easier it is to get an immediate return on buying it.
