A pilot whose plane is positioned behind and outside the leader in a formation of flying aircraft is known as the "Wingman". In the world of dating think of this wingman the same way, as back-up beefcake or go-to gigolo.
His role is to make you look better by supporting your presence much like a fighter pilot. The purpose of planes in formation is: Attack. When you have a strong wingman the best part is you will never have to worry about his ass holding his own.
A real Romeo does not need a wingman, but most great Romeos have been a wingman before. The training ground for a sexual sidekick is made up mostly of following a more successful ladies man - in action.
Now, some lesser-secure men will often pick a friend that is less experienced than him or does not dress as cool as him or someone who laughs at his jokes or…all of the above. The lesser-secure man is not picking a "fool" but more of a "Robin" (as in Batman & Robin) to support and validate that he is a great catch. If Robin is perceived as sincere then it will act as an endorsement to the lesser-secure man.
The Sidekick Union
Are you presently the sidekick? Are you a "Robin" who wants to up his action? Spring Break is here again and every major city with a beach or gambling will be jammed packed with hot co-eds traveling in packs and dying to take their clothes off.
Large resorts or vacation spots are prime training ground for the sidekick union. Anytime you are traveling in a pack with your friends on the proverbial prowl there is a certain dynamic present that is undeniable.
This dynamic that exists in groups of friends is the LEAGUE FACTOR - write that down. NO GIRL IS OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE - but guys are definitely in different leagues when side by side for her to compare and judge.
The League Factor is understanding what league you are in when in your peer group. If you and three other guys go to a club in Las Vegas together, I bet I could look at a distance for less than five minutes and tell which guy has the best taste, which guy is the most outgoing and which guy is the best looking without ever talking to any of them.
Even if you just have one buddy that you roll with there is a visible dynamic between you that tells the world who is "Batman" and who is the sidekick.

The way you use wingmen to your ultimate advantage is pick someone who is the total opposite of you. Nerdy, geeky guys that have not found their way yet make great wingmen. They're great wingmen because they are grateful to be out with someone who knows their friend gets action and they know they are actually going to talk to females that they would not have on their own…yet. Try to pick someone who is at minimum, not a social outcast, this will not work in your favor no matter how generous you look.
Looking generous and tolerant is two of the obvious qualities that you must possess if you are out with your sidekick, Kato. This is the bonus to picking a wingman of the minor leagues not the majors. If you look like a model and your buddy looks like Adam Sandler, then girls will be attracted to the fact that you have "diverse" friends and be less intimidated by you if you decide to approach.
If your wingman becomes a cockblocker, you better find a new wingman because you will not be able to fix this; it is an inherent rogue behavior. And be careful because if your wingman is as funny as Adam Sandler you are going to have a hard time getting her attention back.
Pick a wingman that makes you look good but not like a pro!
Wingman Tip
I was a wingman for a long time to guys who "thought" they were Batman. I would sit and listen to the dime store advice that would spew out of mouths of guys I would rarely see get laid. Then one day like an epiphany I realized that I was getting action just by being a good guy, a funny guy, a good wingman.
On a couple of occasions my support and loyalty to Batman was rewarded by smarter women than we. Now, fully experienced I still offer myself as wingman. But now I am a different kind of fighter pilot. Now I am the Stealth fighter pilot.
When you are the wingman, all responsibility falls on Batman, not you. Even if you cockblock, out talk or look like you stalk, it is his fault for bringing you along. Do your thing and practice your flying maneuvers at his expense. Let's face it, he did not invite you along to get you laid, he invited you along to help him get laid.
Personally I prefer to be the wingman sometimes because you are not the center of attention and if the leader gets shot and killed you might just get laid for being in the right place at the right time.
Remember, every time Robin tried to outshine Batman he just looked frustrated in his leotard - so pick and choose when you will suit up.
The real cool cat out there living the good life did not do so without life lessons. A major life lesson to all men out there may just be camaraderie - brotherhood. There is no reason to demean any other guy or wingman because we are all on the same team trying to hit the same target.
When you see a Batman score or a Robin hit the floor, never forget that you were a rookie too and it could be you.
