The Fundamentals and Sex Positions for Pregnant Sex
You are pregnant - you know why? You had sex. Now you will spend the next 9 months changing physically, emotionally and mentally as your stomach grows each day. Just because your stomach looks like you swallowed Dom DeLuise does not mean you have to go the 9 months without "taking care of momma".
Sex during pregnancy can be both safe and fun. Your unborn child is perfectly protected in your uterus, and most couples can safely continue having sex right up until the baby is born. However, there are certain situations in which your doctor will probably advise you against intercourse. These include:
- Preterm labor
- More than one miscarriage
- Placenta previa (a condition in which the placenta blocks the opening of the uterus)
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Breaking of the amniotic sac or leaking amniotic fluid
- Your Mother-In-Law is home
Who's Driving?
Ladies, do not be surprised if your sex drive starts turning into a roller coaster ride while you are pregnant. Whether or not your sex drive dips to an all time low or it bangs the chrome off a trailer hitch will depend on variables such as stage of pregnancy your in, and individual "drive".
Often times just knowing there is no need for birth control at this point can accelerate the drive for both partners and some women become very active. Some women are fatigued and nauseous often during their first trimester - making sex less likely. In the third trimester many women feel to "fat" and have too many issues and don't desire sex.
The bright side of this children's story is that there is a good chance most females will find sex more pleasurable after they are pregnant than before. During this time blood flow to your pelvis increases which can mean greater sensitivity and enjoyment.
You may even experience multiple orgasms -- many women experience them for the first time during pregnancy. Hormonal changes can make your breasts more sensitive to his touch.
One caveat: For some women this increase in sensitivity is too much and actually becomes painful. But don't worry, it's just temporary. Tell Daddy to be good!
Mom, don't be surprised if Daddy's sex drives changes up or down while you are "with child". Pregnancy makes some men feel closer to their partner and your "new body" might just excite him. Some men worry so much about the comfort of their child or partner and even assuming the roll of dad it may decrease his sex drive.
Positions Everyone
As your belly grows, you will probably find that some positions work better for you than others. Missionary, for example, could be like banging the Michelin Man! Now is a great time to experiment. You may find that what works best is a woman-on-top position, or a side-lying position, where you each lie on your side either facing each other or with him lying behind you. Try different positions until you find one that's comfortable for you.
If it is uncomfortable - quit.
If you aren't in the mood or are unable to have intercourse, you can find other ways to show affection and maintain your connection with your partner. Cuddle, kiss, trade massages - or just give him the best "BLOW JOB" of his life. Explore other types of sexual gratification, such as mutual masturbation and oral sex but (men) don't blow air into the vagina!
Sex Positions for Pregnant Women
Spoon: The spoon position can be very intimate. In this case you should lie on your side curled in a C, with your partner facing your back and curled around you. He then enters your vagina from behind while both of you are lying on your sides.
Side by side: Another good choice for late pregnancy, this position will control thrust and keep weight off your belly. You and your husband lie side by side, facing each other. He slips his leg over yours (your leg can be either straight and to the side or bent at the knee) and enters you from an angle. In a variation of this, you lie on your back and he on his side. Put your leg that's closest to him over his legs. He can enter you from the back and side, and still have his face next to yours.
Woman on top: This can be a satisfying position during late pregnancy, allowing you to control pacing and be more comfortable. Make sure, however, that he doesn't enter you too deeply. He will always try!
Edge of the bed: Try lying down face-up on the edge of the bed, with your legs spread and the soles of your feet on the floor. Your partner can stand or bend over you. This position, however, does allow him to thrust more deeply, so you'll have to tell him how gentle and slow you want him to be. See if he listens.
Most importantly - keep the lines of communication "open". This is a wonderful thing happening to you both - talk about your needs and work together.
